This condition is common in newborns and young children, but it can also occur in older boys and adults. Phimosis can be either physiological (normal and resolves on its own) or pathological (abnormal and requires treatment).
CAUSES:
Normal Development: In infants and young children, phimosis is usually a normal part of development.
Infections: Balanitis (inflammation of the glans) or posthitis (inflammation of the foreskin) can cause scarring and make retraction difficult.
Trauma: Injury to the foreskin can lead to scarring and phimosis.
Skin Conditions: Conditions like lichen sclerosus can cause the foreskin to become tight and non-retractable.
Chronic Inflammation: Repeated infections or inflammation can lead to scarring and phimosis.
