CAUSES
The primary cause of a prostate abscess is a bacterial infection. Factors that can lead to or contribute to the development of a prostate abscess include:
Acute Bacterial Prostatitis: A severe infection of the prostate gland caused by bacteria.
Chronic Prostatitis: Long-standing inflammation of the prostate that can lead to abscess formation.
Urinary Tract Infections (UTI)
Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI)
Immunocompromised States
TREATMENT:
Treatment of a prostate abscess typically involves a combination of antibiotics and procedures to drain the abscess:
1. Antibiotics
2. Drainage of the Abscess:
Transrectal Aspiration: A needle is inserted through the rectal wall into the abscess under ultrasound guidance to withdraw pus.
Surgical Drainage: In more severe or complicated cases, a surgical procedure may be needed to drain the abscess, either through a perineal approach (through the skin of the perineum) or via endoscopic techniques.
